A Fly In Her Stomach——Hua Tuo—— a miracle-working doctor Story

Hua Tuo was an outstanding Chinese physician during the Eastern Han Dynasty and Three Kingdoms Period.

According to the Records of Three Kingdoms and Book of Later Han, he was the first person in China to use anesthesia during surgery. He was famous also for his expertise in surgery, abilities in acupuncture, herbal medicine, and the invention of Wu Qin Xi (五禽戲 "Exercise of the Five Animals", a kind of medical exercises, from studying movements of the tiger, deer, bear, monkey, and crane.)

Besides, Hua Tuo was recorded as one of the earliest doctors who used psychotherapy to treat illness.

One time, Hua Tuo was invited to treat a lady who could barely eat and frequently vomited, but he could not diagnose any illness. So Hua Tuo asked her for the cause of her condition, and she said that she once ate a fly by accident, and that from then on she had been feeling the fly acting up in her stomach.

Hua Tuo prescribed her some medicine, which made the lady vomit badly. As she was taking a rest between vomiting, Hua Tuo put a fly on her vomit.

Then Hua Tuo show the fly to the lady and told the lady that the fly in her stomach had been discharged. The lady was immediately relieved and her disease was gone accordingly.
